Jesup – Richard A. Kayser, 79 years old of Jesup, IA, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, IA.  He was born June 26, 1933, in Perry township of Buchanan County, IA, the son of Albert Nicholas Kayser and Leona Marie (Welter) Kayser.  He attended St. John’s High School in Independence, IA, and graduated with the class of 1951.  Following his service in the US Army from 1953- 1955, he purchased a farm three miles east of Jesup.  On September 10, 1956, he was united in marriage to Anna Frances Gardner at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville, IA.  They made their home on the farm east of Jesup where they raised their family and farmed.  In 1992, Dick and Ann moved to town.  Dick then operated Kayser Excavating. He obtained his Master Plumber license, and worked with Kayser Plumbing and Heating.  He was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, and past chairman of the Parish Council; Knights of Columbus Council 8227 and a past Grand Knight, Hennessey Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; and was currently serving as Iowa Knights of Columbus District #14, District Deputy; Catholic Order of Foresters; Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342, and past Commander; also was past president of the Jesup Co-op; and a member of other business organizations.

Dick is survived by his wife, Ann of Jesup; five sons, Michael (Sheila) Kayser of Waterloo, Robert (Enadene) Kayser of Waterloo, James (Kris) Kayser of Independence, Peter Kayser of Waverly, Matthew (Shannon) Kayser of Gilbertville; three daughters, Patricia (James Wray) Tompkins of Marion, Jane (Irv) Weber of Jesup, Donna (Jim) Ohl of Winthrop; 24 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three brothers, Ronald (Jayne) Kayser of Lexington, KY, David (Rosemary) Kayser of Independence, Steve Kayser of Ferndale, WA; one sister, Mary Ann (Patrick) Thornton of Fort Mill, SC.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Leona; step-mother, Josephine; three brothers, Eugene, Dale and Paul Kayser; and one grandson, Jeremiah Kayser.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, November 30, 2012, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with burial in the church cemetery.  Military rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus and Forester’s rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Vigil service.  Visitation will continue for an hour before services Friday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius School, Jesup, IA, Don Bosco High School, Gilbertville, IA, or to the family
