Independence – Mary Monica Weber, 91 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center Long Term Care in Independence.  She was born in Independence on November 5, 1920, the daughter of Clement J. and Ella G. (Smith) Weber.  She graduated from St. John’s High School in Independence as the Vice President of the Class of 1939.  On August 14, 1945, she and Raymond Leonard Weber were married in Independence.  He preceded her in death in 1976.  Mrs. Weber worked for a short time before her marriage in the office of John Deere in Waterloo and then, did day care in her home later in life.  Most of her time was occupied with caring for her family and volunteering at the Independence Senior Citizens Center and local care centers.  She enjoyed sending cards and letters which often included cartoons she had saved from newspapers.  She also enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and one day bus trip. Mrs. Weber was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, the Rosary Society, the Heritage Club, the Friendship Club, and AARP.

Mrs. Weber is survived by 3 daughters, Margie (Larry) Torgerson, Vicki (Dr. Dan) Kegler, and Mary Kay (Kevin) Christensen, all of Independence, Iowa, and 4 sons, Paul (Patricia) Weber of Algona, Iowa, Roger Weber of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Glenn (Teresa) Weber of Perry, Iowa, and Keith (Deanna) Weber of Cedar Falls, Iowa.  She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, and 3 sisters, Norma Hoover of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Jan (Irv) Lorenzen of Mesa, Arizona, and Peggy (Don) Cunningham of Waterloo, Iowa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 infant daughter, Teresa Weber, and 1 grandson, Robby Weber.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence.  Rev. Donald Plamondon will be the Celebrant.  Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Parish Rosary begins at 3 p.m. and a Vigil Service begins at 7:30 p.m.
