– Marvin Lavern Schulz, 80 years old of Jesup, Iowa, died Friday, October 19, 2012, at his home after a sudden illness. He was born on March 12, 1932, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Vernon Schulz and Dorothy (Kelley) Schulz. Marvin attended Dunkerton High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict. On February 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Joyce Jensen at St. Ansgar’s Lutheran Church, Waterloo. They made their home on an acreage near the family farm outside of Waterloo for 12 years before they moved to Jesup to raise their family.

Marvin worked at Rath Packing for 35 years, Lewis Systems as a security guard, and farmed the family farm outside of Waterloo. Marvin was a brilliant gardener who grew amazing flowers and plants. He was also an energetic handyman who could fix anything. His mild manner and kind heart were always looking for ways to help others. Marvin was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn; 3 daughters, Cindy (Ralph) Howard of Helotes, TX; Tamara (Lynn) Miller of Jesup; and Deborah (Jon) Wendel of Johnston, IA; 10 grandchildren, Chris, Roslyn, Phillip, and Katelyn Howard; Jill, Luke and Ryan Miller; Sheena and Heather Wendel, and Tiffany (Jason) Smith; 1 great-grandchild, Carter Spier; and 1 brother, Marlyn Schulz of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Barbara Pierce.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Monday, October 22, 2012, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with Pastor Dawn Pederson officiating.  Music will be by Jen Bistline, organist and Nancy Eckholm, soloist. Casket Bearers will be Chris Howard, Philip Howard, Jason Smith, Luke Miller, Ryan Miller and Steve Mosack.  Burial will be in the Garden of Memories, Waterloo, IA, with Military Rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup.

Visitation will be 3 p.m. – 6 p.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012 at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to the church. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of arrangements.
