White Funeral Home Independence – Edward Wencil Vanous, 88 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on February 29, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Lydia (Umholz) Vanous. He attended the Johnson County country schools. On October 15, 1950, he and the former Marie Anne Sebetka were married in Cedar Rapids. They farmed near Rowley, Iowa, and Mr. Vanous never really retired. Farming was his life. He was a member of the Farm Bureau. Mr. Vanous did enjoy traveling and restoring old tractors of all kinds. He also was an animal lover and always had pets. Mr. Vanous is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marie, 1 daughter, Carol (Fred) Kitzman of Swisher, Iowa, 3 sons, Don Vanous (and his special friend, Julie Johnston) of Rowley, Iowa, John (Cheryl) Vanous and Brian (Anita) Vanous, both of Quasqueton, Iowa, 15 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Karen Vanous, and 1 daughter-in-law, Penny Vanous. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Casket Bearers will be Tim Kitzman, Terrence Kitzman, Brett Vanous, Brad Vanous, Scott McMurrin, and Cory McMurrin. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16th, at the funeral home. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. |
