White Funeral Home Independence – Charlotte L. Marshall, 92 years old, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa. She was born on September 28, 1920, in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of George W. and Gertrude (Wright) Benner. She graduated from high school in Sycamore, Illinois. On October 23, 1938, she and Raymond Mason Marshall were married at the Sycamore Methodist Church in Sycamore, Illinois. He preceded her in death in 2011. Their family moved to Independence, Iowa, in 1964, where she worked in area insurance offices until retiring in 1975. Mrs. Marshall was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence and she was formerly a member of the Grange, the Order of Eastern Star, and Rebekah’s (past Grand Matriarch of the State of Iowa). She enjoyed traveling, reading, dancing, playing cards, crafts, and golf. Mrs. Marshall is survived by 3 sons, Ray (Rosanne) Marshall of Mendon, Michigan, David (Cheryl) Marshall of Anamosa, Iowa, and Charles (Teresa) Marshall of Kansas City, Missouri, 1 daughter, Janet Siesseger of Leslie, Arkansas, 12 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by 1 brother, George “Bud” Brenner II of Rock Island, Illinois, and a close family friend, Virginia Vela of Leslie, Arkansas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother, Eugene K. Benner. Memorial Services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation after 5 p.m. on Friday. Mrs. Marshall’s cremated remains will be placed in the Ossuary in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa. In lieu a flowers, memorials may be sent to the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center or the Above and Beyond Hospice, both in Monticello, Iowa. |
