White Funeral Home Jesup – LaVera A. Sherman, 93 years old of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Long Term Care unit, Independence, IA. Mrs. Sherman was born November 27, 1918, in Dresden Township of Chickasaw County, IA, the daughter of Henry L. Wittkop and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Meyers) Wittkop. She graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1937. On August 26, 1937, she was united in marriage to Everette T. Sherman in Jesup, IA. She worked 20 years at Gerdes Locker and then Hanson Locker in Jesup and later worked at the Mental Health Institute in Independence as a nurses aid retiring in 1982. She was a charter member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup. Mrs. Sherman is survived by two daughters, Audrey Sherman of Edina, MN, and Ruth Brasch of Rowlett, TX; also three grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everette (March 15, 1972), also, one son, Floyd Everette Sherman in 1942; one grandson Doug Brasch; one brother Edward Wittkop; one sister Luene Buchan; and three step sisters, Lula Clausen, Zelma Deetz and Hedwig Wittkop. Funeral services will be 11:00 am. – Monday, October 1, 2012, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA and for an hour before services Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed in LaVera’s name to the Buchanan County Health Center or Cedar Valley Hospice in Independence, IA or to a charity of the donor’s choice. |
