Independence – A. Clark Satterlee, 84 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on November 8, 1927, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Arthur Amos and Lois Miriam (Hayzlett) Satterlee. He graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1945. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. On May 7, 1949, he and the former Marie Rose Kisner were married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She preceded him in death in 2010. Mr. Satterlee farmed in Buchanan County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence and the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440. He was formerly a member of the Wilson Cemetery Board for many years. He enjoyed square dancing and playing cards (500 and Cribbage). Mr. Satterlee also spent time working in his yard and garden. In general, he enjoyed being out of doors, especially if that involved fishing. Mr. Satterlee is survived by 3 daughters, Diana Hulin of Jesup, Iowa, and Connie (Harry) Scott and Julie (Brad) Bagby, both of Independence, Iowa, and 1 son, Gary (Rhonda) Satterlee of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Sheila Lamphier of Independence, Iowa, and Sharon Kessler of Carmel, California. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 grandson, Neal Hulin, 2 brothers, Jack Satterlee and Jerry Satterlee, and 1 sister, Genevieve “Ginx” Cook. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Lance Hulin, Scott Crawford, Corey Satterlee, Blake Bagby, Nikki Buck, and Lacee Bates will be Casket Bearers. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, October 1st, at the funeral home where a Military Service begins at 7 p.m.
