White Funeral Home Independence – Allan Lawrence Nielson, 71 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Saturday, September 1, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a sudden illness. He was born on June 10, 1941, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Harley and Orrie Nielson. He attended school in Rowley, Iowa. On December 3, 1960, he and the former Rose Marie Longshore were married in Hiawatha, Iowa. Mr. Nielson was a mechanic, welder, and metal fabricator. He was employed at Bettenbender Manufacturing in Coggan, Iowa. He was a member or the Living Water Church in Independence. Mr. Nielson was a tinkerer and enjoyed shopping for and collecting tools of all kinds. He also enjoyed camping and traveling to visit family. Mr. Nielson is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose, 1 son, Rex Nielson of Oelwein, Iowa, 1 daughter, Jackie Nielson of Independence, Iowa, and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, and 1 sister. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor John Sheda officiating. Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 3rd, at the funeral home. |
