White Funeral Home Independence – Anna “Helen” Haverkamp, 81 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, July 30, 2012, at the West Village Care Center in Independence. She was born on July 16, 1931, in Clayton County near Colesburg, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ida (Barkowski) Muench. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1949, and then went on to graduate from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, in 1952. On July 8, 1956, she and Richard Arthur Haverkamp were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Haverkamp taught school before her marriage and worked in several other retail spaces in Independence but mostly she helped farm and raised her family. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir, and the Farm Bureau, where she was the Board Secretary for many years. In 1995, she was the Farm Bureau Mother of the Year. Mrs. Haverkamp is survived by 3 sons, Daniel (Wanda) Haverkamp of Independence, Iowa, Dean (Kathy) Haverkamp of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Paul (Mary) Haverkamp of Algona, Iowa, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 1 brother, John (Sheri) Muench of Aurora, Iowa, and 1 sister, Loretta (Dick) Hubbart of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by 1 aunt, Lavone Barkowski of Houston, Texas. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Lillian McLaren. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Music will be provided by Georgia Gray, organist. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2nd, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. A memorial fund has been established. |
