White Funeral Home Independence – Marvin “Bobbie” Bandy, 87 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on January 31, 1925, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Marvin Lou and Effie Mae (Abbott) Bandy. He graduated from high school in Independence. Mr. Bandy served in the United States Army during World War II. On June 5, 1948, he and the former Doris Mae Smith were married in Independence, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1969. On October 31, 1971, he and the former Alma Mae Beltz were married at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. For 50 years he was a track man for the Illinois Central Railroad. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Mr. Bandy enjoyed camping and fishing and working in his garden. Mr. Bandy is survived by his wife, Alma, several nieces and nephews, including Lou Ann (Mike) Puhl-Kielty of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jamie Puhl of Waterloo, Iowa, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chuck (Margaret) Beltz of Independence, Patricia VanAuken of Ionia, Iowa, John (Bonnie) Beltz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Judy (Tom) Harland of Independence, Iowa, and Peggy (Terry) Clinton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Betty Lou Puhl, and 1 nephew, Don Davis. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation after 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 26th, at the funeral home. |
