Jesup – LaVern Robert Crew 91 years old of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, June 21, 2012, at his daughter’s home near New Hartford, IA from cancer. He was born September 23, 1920, at Quasqueton, IA the son of Roy Robert Crew and Ida Belle (Sherrets) Crew.  After his primary education he worked as a farm hand.  On February 27, 1942, he was united in marriage to Deloris Faye Voland at the Methodist Parsonage in Independence, IA.  LaVern then served in the US Army Air Corp from 1942 – 1946.  When he returned home, he worked at Rath Packing and then worked 34 years as a machine operator foreman for the Illinois Central Rail Road, before retiring in 1980.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup and in retirement enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Mr. Crew is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Ivan) Jager of LaPorte City, IA, Barbara (Wayne) Latwesen of New Hartford, IA; three grandchildren, Michael (Joy) Jager, Connie (Brad) Feckers, Steve (Marlas) Latwesen; and six great grandchildren, Dalton, McKenzie and Brayden Feckers, Kelsey, Sydney and Parker Latwesen.  He was preceded in death by his wife Deloris on October 30, 1999.  His parents and two brothers, LaVon Crew and Gerald Crew also preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Monday, June 25^th at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Lynn C. Gardner officiating.  Casket Bearers will be Michael Jager, Steve Latwesen, Dalton Feckers, Brad Feckers, Chet Oldridge and Dale Hand.  Military rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup with burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Sunday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
