Jesup – Olive Hazel (Heifner) Jones, 92 years old of Jesup, IA, died Friday, May 25, 2012, from complications of congestive heart failure, at the East Towne Care Center in Independence, IA. She was born October 7, 1919, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Elmer Elsworth Heifner and Hazel (Ball) Heifner. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1937 and then attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. She worked as a private secretary before her marriage. On October 28, 1950, she was united in marriage to Dr. Herbert C. Jones, at Trinity Methodist Church in Des Moines. They made their home and raised their family in Jesup where Herb practiced Dentistry and Olive was active serving on the Jesup Library Board for 21 years, a longtime member of the Even Dozen Study Club and an active member of the American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Herbert C. Jones of Jesup; two daughters, Carla Hughes of Cedar Rapids, IA, Harriet (Duncan) McClelland of Wilson, WY; two sons, Dr. Merritt (Connie) Jones of Jesup, Andrew (Beth) Jones of Littleton, CO; six grandchildren, Mark Hughes, Erica (Robert) Wolterman, Dr. Christopher Jones, Brian Jones, Madeline McClelland and Merritt McClelland and two great grandchildren, Lillian Wolterman and Edison Wolterman. Her parents and three brothers, her twin brother, Oliver Heifner in infancy, Robert Heifner and Jack Heifner preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Dawn Pederson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Independence, IA. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
