White Funeral Home ROWLEY – Ramon Lavern Rasmussen, 78 years old, of Rowley, Iowa, died on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at his home. He was born on April 25, 1933, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Clarence George and Mabel Esther (Peterson) Rasmussen. He attended school in Winthrop, Iowa. On December 27, 1952, he and the former Patricia Ann Morrissey were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. Mr. Rasmussen served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Rasmussen was a brick mason until retiring in 1973, and he also farmed until 1990. After his formal retirement, he was a part time truck driver for Miller Quarry. He was a member of the Bricklayers Local #28 and a former member of the Rowley Fire Department (17 years). He was a former Mayor of Rowley and was always eager to act as Supervisor for any project. He enjoyed playing pool and cards and putting together puzzles. Mr. Rasmussen is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia, 5 sons, Michael (Lorrie) Rasmussen, Robert (Mickey Avis) Rasmussen, and Paul (Lisa) Rasmussen, all of Rowley, Iowa, Richard (Pam) Rasmussen of Independence, Iowa, and Alan (Rose) Rasmussen of Winthrop, Iowa, and 3 daughters, Mary (Jeff) Blaness and Ann (Eric) Lamparter, both of Rowley, Iowa, and Molly (Joel) Greenley of Independence, Iowa. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Jeanette Schweitzer of Independence, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Ruth Ann, in infancy, 1 great grandson, Blake Steil, and 5 brothers, Dick Rasmussen, Judd Rasmussen, Earl Rasmussen, Emmett Rasmussen, and Duane Rasmussen. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Mr. Rasmussen’s cremated remains will be placed in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa, at a later date. |
