White Funeral Home OELWEIN – Harold W. Tegler, 91 years old, of Oelwein, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, March 16, 2012, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born on October 8, 1920, in Dyersville, Iowa, the son of Leo and Veronica (White) Tegler. He attended country schools near Dyersville and Lamont. During World War II, Mr. Tegler served in the U.S. Marine Corps. On January 3, 1956, he and the former Dorothy Marie Krogman were married in Waterloo, Iowa. They later divorced. Before retiring in 1985, Mr. Tegler farmed in Buchanan County. He attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. And he was a member of the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440 in Independence. Mr. Tegler enjoyed being around other people, dancing, and traveling. Mr. Tegler is survived by 3 sons, John (Kathy) Tegler, Tom (Melynda) Tegler, and Tim Tegler, all of Independence, Iowa, 3 grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, and 11 step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his long time companion, Ruth Fry of Oelwein, Iowa, 1 brother, Fr. Herbert Tegler of Cascade, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Thelma Broemmel and Margie (Jim) Simms, both of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Richard Tegler and Wayne Tegler. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Fr. Herbert Tegler and Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Casket Bearers will be John Tegler, Tom Tegler, Tim Tegler, Tyler Tegler, Tom Bergerson, and Larry Budzine. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation after 2:30 p.m. on Monday, March 19th, at the White Funeral Home where a Parish Rosary begins at 3 p.m. and a Military Service begins at 7 p.m. |
