Gilbertville – John “Jack” McGee, 76 years old of Gilbertville, IA, died Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, IA, from cancer.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, with burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville.  Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville.  Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7th at White Funeral Home, 1315 Main Street, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.  Memorials will be directed Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and to The Bosco System both in Gilbertville.

Jack was born March 28, 1935 in Howard County, Iowa, near Lourdes, the son of John McGee and Anna (Knipling) McGee.  Following graduation from Cresco of Notre Dame High School with the class of 1954, he served in the US Military as a paratrooper.  He was discharged in 1956.  On March 2, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mary Josephine Prochaska at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, rural Elma, IA.  They made their home at Gilbertville and raised their family.  Jack worked 30 years for Deere & Company in Waterloo, he retired in 1990.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714 in Gilbertville and United Auto Workers Union Local 838 in Waterloo.

Jack is survived by his wife, Mary of Gilbertville; three sons, Daniel (Patricia) McGee of Bettendorf, Dennis (Teresa) McGee of Oklahoma City, OK, Richard (Veronica) McGee of Huxley, IA; two daughters, Debra (Russ) Backes of Raymond, Dee (Hal) Reiter of Buckingham; also 18 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Rita Fleming of Stevensville, MT and Marge Wetherell of Rock Island, IL.  In addition to his parents, four brothers, Donald, Raymond, Gerald and Edward McGee; and two sisters, Marcella Mirci and Cecelia Delaney preceded him in death.

Jack had a great sense of humor which he shared with many.  He enjoyed fishing, reading, sports and delighted in his children and grandchildren.
