Independence – Louise Johnson, 88 years old, of Shellsburg, Iowa, formerly of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, Iowa. She was born on June 20, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of George and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Zobeck) Sadlon. She graduated from high school in Shellsburg, Iowa. On November 23, 1946, she and William Marion Johnson were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the United Methodist Church in Urbana where she was secretary for 16 years and sang in the choir. Reading her Bible and singing hymns were always important to her. She was proud to be a farm wife and was actively involved in the farm until retiring in 1993.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by 2 daughters, Judith Finger of Vinton, Iowa, and Karen (James) Hardy of Phoenix, Arizona, one son, David (Diane) Johnson of Urbana, Iowa, and one daughter-in-law, Susan Johnson of Independence, Iowa. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Karie (Shannon), Chris (Daleea), Kim (Gary), Melanie (Aaron), Nick (Amy), Melissa (Joe), Helen (David), Lisa, Billie Jo (Ryan), Andy (Ashley), and Emily, 26 great grandchildren, Carly, Marissa, Lindsay, William, Sydney, Caiden, Jacob K., Maggie, Cody, Bryce, Kris, Madeline, Mason, Austin, Aiden, Avery, Hunter, Lauren, Lizzy, Jacob J., Morgan, Haley, Toby, Rowdy, Zachary, and Alayna, 1 brother, Edwin Sadlon of Manchester, Iowa, 1 sister, Lucille Hatfield of Shellsburg, Iowa, and 1 sister-in-law, Olive Sadlon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Charles Johnson, 1 brother, Robert Sadlon, 1 son-in-law, Larry Finger, 1 brother-in-law, Lloyd Hatfield, and 1 sister-in-law, Kathleen Sadlon.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Sheri Andersen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16th, at the funeral home.
