Dunkerton – Floyd L. Turner, 87 years old of Canyon City, CO, and formerly of Dunkerton, IA, died Thursday, January 5, 2012, at his home. Mr. Turner was born October 8, 1924, in Dunkerton, IA, the son of Henry George Turner and Roberta Lydia “Ruby” (McMillin) Turner. Following graduation from Dunkerton High School, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Flint in the Pacific Theater. On November 24, 1946, Floyd was united in marriage to Alberta Jean Wiedman, at Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo, IA. He owned and operated Northeast Iowa Silo Company in Dunkerton and later became involved in Coast to Coast Hardware Stores, opening and operating stores in Indianola, IA, and Glenwood Springs, CO.
Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Alberta of Canyon City, Co; three daughters, Linda (Dr. James) Robinson of Cedar Falls, IA, Sue (John) Graham of Manitou Springs, CO, Sharon (Ahmad) Gharyani of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; two sons, David (Sharon) Turner of Fairbank, IA, Burt (Rose) Turner of Florence, CO; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; three brothers, Theodore Turner of Waterloo, IA, Dr. Robert (Karen) Turner of Albuquerque, NM, Ronnie (Agie) Turner of Springfield, IL; one sister, Ruby (Bruce) Schroeder of Whitewater, WI. His parents and two brothers, Donald Turner and Richard Turner preceded him in death.
Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. – Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton, IA, with Dr. James Robinson officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Peter Kress American Legion Post #636 of Dunkerton, IA. The family request memorials to the Peter Kress American Legion Post #636 in Dunkerton or to the Cedar Valley Hospice, in leu of flowers.
