Independence – Gloria Kay Cashen, 56 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on February 25, 1955, in Independence, the daughter of James Edward and “Connie” Thelma Byrdine (McCalley) Wilson. She graduated from high school in Independence in 1973 and later earned an A.A. Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. At the time of her death, she was a case manager at B&D Services in Independence. Gloria loved to cook. She also enjoyed collecting stones and jewelry. She especially prized her geodes.
Gloria is survived by 2 sons, Tony (Andrea Tisl) Wilson of Independence, Iowa, and Matthew J. (Rochelle) Cashen of Camp Pendleton, California, 3 grandchildren, her mother, Connie Wilson of Independence, Iowa, 5 brothers, Don Wilson and Gary (Judy) Wilson, both of Independence, Iowa, Ken (Peggy) Wilson of Fresno, California, John Wilson of Oelwein, Iowa, and Mark (Jen) Wilson of Center Point, Iowa, and 1 sister, Glenda (Jim Boyland) Wilson of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father, 1 nephew, Christopher Wilson, and 1 great nephew, Anthony Wilson.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Gary Wilson officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Her cremated remains will be placed in the Cremation Garden at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
