Rowley – Donald G. Brunko, 91 years old, of Rowley, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at West Village Care Center in Independence, Iowa. He was born on March 2, 1920, in Brandon, Iowa, the son of George August and Selma Haines (Allerding) Brunko. He attended school in Brandon and graduated from high school in 1938. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. On June 19, 1953, he and the former Wilma Rosetta Haines Beachler were married at the Methodist Chapel in Harland, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 2003. Mr. Brunko was a custodian at the Rowley School. He retired in 1983. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rowley, the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440, and the Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post #30. He was formerly a trustee of the Rowley Cemetery and a volunteer with the Rowley Fire Department.
Mr. Brunko is survived by 2 step sons, William M. Beachler of Lansing, Michigan, and James K. (Jeanne) Beachler of Robins, Iowa, 1 step daughter, Judy (Alan) Kress of Independence, Iowa, 5 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Willard Brunko, 1 sister, Helen Fuller, and 1 granddaughter in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2011, at the Presbyterian Church in Rowley, Iowa, with Pastor Rikki Sorensen officiating. Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with a Military Service begins at 7 p.m.
