Rowley – John J. Kimmerle, 96 years old, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Rowley, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 8, 2011, at West Village Care Center in Independence. He was born on October 15, 1915, in Buchanan County, Iowa, the son of Paul and Mary Ann (Arnold) Kimmerle. He attended the Buchanan County country schools. Mr. Kimmerle helped his parents and area residents work their farms until he retired. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Rowley. Mr. Kimmerle enjoyed reading and watching TV. He is remembered as having the first color TV in the family. He had an appreciation of cars and was particularly proud of his town, Rowley. Mr. Kimmerle was an unofficial caretaker of the town and could often be seen picking up litter as he took daily walks.
Mr. Kimmerle is survived by his brother, Harold Kimmerle of Manchester, Iowa, and 12 nieces and nephews, and special friends, Vivian and Bill Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Marian Sanford Pfiffner, and 1 brother, Verle Kimmerle.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Rikki Sorensen officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa.
