Independence – Agnes Marie Fiester, 89 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on July 14, 1922, in Fayette County, near Oran, Iowa, the daughter of Vincent and Clara Rose (Buzynski) Duffy. She graduated from the St. John’s High School in Independence and finished the course of study at Pitzi’s Beauty School in Waterloo. On July 22, 1947, she and Richard “Rick” Bryson Fiester were married at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2011. Mrs. Fiester was a beautician with a shop in her home. She enjoyed reading and cooking. She will be remembered for experimenting with new recipes and the results she sometime achieved. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence and Alanon.
Mrs. Fiester is survived by 1 daughter, Susan McMorris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 3 sons, David Fiester and Mark (Lynda) Fiester, both of Independence, Iowa, and Steven Fiester of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 5 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. She is also survived by 1 brother, Wayne (Margaret) Duffy of southern California and 1 nephew (whom she raised), Paul Fiester of Denver, Colorado.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, LaVern Duffy and Clifford Duffy, 2 sisters, Evelyn Wilkinson and Bernice Jamason, and 1 nephew (whom she raised), Mike Fiester.
Mrs. Fiester has donated her body to educational research. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Fr. Paul C. McManus will be the Celebrant. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. A Parish Rosary begins at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Service begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
