White Funeral Home Independence – Vernon D. “Bud” Hall, 84 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at home in Independence. He was born on April 9, 1927, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Evan Lorraine and Gladys Marie (Hall) Hall. He attended school in Independence. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. On April 26, 1947, he and Margaret Lucille Cornwell were married in Independence, Iowa. Mr. Hall was a construction superintendent for Hoffman Brothers Construction. Later he was the City of Independence Building Inspector and then, the Director of Public Works. He retired in 1989. In 1974 he and his wife purchased the Rush Park Mobile Home Park. Mr. Hall attended the Grace Evangelical Church in Independence. He was a member of the Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post #30 and the Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post #2440. He was formerly the troop leader of Boy Scout Troop #47. Mr. Hall enjoyed woodworking and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s events. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille, 2 daughters, Margaret “Peg” Weber of Weki Wachee, Florida, and Cindy (Michael) Dunn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 1 son, Timothy (Sheila) Hall of Dubuque, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Pauline Bellmer of Oelwein, Iowa, and Linda (Ed) Short of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and 1 brother, “Skip” (Marsha) Hall of Guttenberg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Vernon “Buddy” Hall, Jr., 3 brothers, Donald Hall, Evan Hall, Jr., and Burton Hall, and 2 sisters, Norma Jean Mullin, and Arladean Maherry. Memorial Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. Mike Root officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Fund has been established for Cedar Valley Hospice and Grace Evangelical Church in Independence. |
