Independence – Ray Earl Temeyer, 88 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  He was born on April 11, 1923, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Earl Albert and Lena Viola (Fueher) Temeyer.  He attended the Buchanan County schools.  On March 16, 1963, he and the former Betty Ann Smetzer were married in Vinton, Iowa.  They farmed in Buchanan County until retiring in 1988.  Mr. Temeyer enjoyed deer hunting and attending local auctions.  He looked for farm machinery that he could tinker with and then resell.  He and Betty wintered in Florida for many years where he enjoyed fishing and attending auctions.  Mr. Temeyer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, the Farm Bureau, and Ducks Unlimited and he was formerly a member of the Independence Lions Club.

Mr. Temeyer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Betty, 2 brothers, John (Louise) Temeyer of Independence, Iowa, and George (Carol) Temeyer of Jesup, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Carol (Dick) Siglin of Independence, Iowa, and Kathe (Rex) Hooton of St. James, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Charles Temeyer and Harold Temeyer, and 3 sisters, June Bonefas, Marge Steinbron, and Donna Lynch.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating.  Music will be provided by Mr. Todd Temeyer, pianist.  Casket Bearers will be Jeff Temeyer, Dennis Smetzer, Dean Siglin, Dan Bonefas, Fred Steinbron, Jr., David Lynch, Paul Temeyer, Irvin Temeyer, Jesse Roscovius, and Tom Temeyer.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
