Dewar - Agnes Mary Meisch Helmers, 91 years old of Dewar, IA, died Friday, February 1, 2008 at the LaPorte City Nursing and Rehab Center in LaPorte City, IA following a lengthy illness. She was born October 24, 1916, at Jesup, IA, the daughter of Mathias Kremer and Matilda (Lardy) Kremer. On September 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Joseph Peter Meisch at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, IA. They farmed in the Jesup, Independence and Waterloo areas. Following Joseph’s death on January 17, 1968, Agnes worked 14 years at the Dewar Elevator as a bookkeeper. On July 22, 1974, she married Robert R. Helmers in Galena, Illinois, and made their home in Dewar, IA. Robert preceded her in death on November 9, 2002. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Raymond, IA.

Agnes is survived by 1 son, Charles Meisch of Kansas City, MO, 2 daughters, JoAnne Meisch of Washburn, IA, Mary (William) Dittmer of Jesup, IA, 4 step-sons, Russell (Carol) Helmers of Elgin, IA, Gary (Connie) Helmers of Kansas City, MO, Duane Helmers of Waterloo, IA, Allen Helmers of Waterloo, IA, 1 step-daughter, Cheryl Helmers of Waterloo, IA, 3 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 8 step great-grandchildren, 4 brothers, Joseph M. (Ellen) Kremer, Jesup, IA, Alfred (Helen) Kremer, Amarillo, TX, Matt (Joyce) Kremer, Garrison, IA, Robert (Ruth) Kremer, Corona, CA, 4 sisters, Margaret Kraus, Jesup, IA, Rita Kies, Jesup, IA, Lucy (Jack) Toal, Tucson, AZ, Theresa Serafina, Lincoln, CA.

In addition to husbands, Joseph Meisch and Robert Helmers she was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters, Marie Soteros, Matilda Temeyer, and Rose Buhrow.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. – Monday, February 4, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA, with Fr. John R. Kremer officiating. Music was by Helen Hellman and the Youth Choir. Casket Bearers were Bryan Mangrich, Michael Meisch, Leo Kremer, Ralph Kraus, Tom Mangrich, and Dennis Blunt. The Lector was Dessie Rottinghaus. Burial was at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville, IA.
