Independence – Jeanne Annette Shannon, 83 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, following a sudden illness. She was born on December 13, 1927, in Buchanan County, Iowa, near Winthrop, the daughter of Milton Lorenzo and Marjorie Beth (Knowles) Cochran. She graduated with honors from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa. On May 1, 1947, she and Marshall Lorraine Shannon were married in Independence, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1984. Mrs. Shannon was the Buchanan County Recorder for 17 years before retiring in 1998. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence and the Buchanan County Democratic Party. Mrs. Shannon was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Chautauqua Literary Society. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family, traveling, working crossword puzzles, and fishing. She also kept her bird feeders full for the birds.
Mrs. Shannon is survived by 1 daughter, Judy Lentzkow of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and 2 sons, Dennis “Buzz” (Becky) Shannon of Independence, Iowa, and Brent (Marcia) Shannon of Rowley, Iowa. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Dean (Annette) Cochran of Venice, Florida.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence with Pastor Kurt Bockoven officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
