Jesup – Demaris Mathilda Thompson, 90 years old formerly of rural Jesup, IA, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at East Towne Care Center, Independence, IA, following a short illness. She was born June 7, 1921, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Louis H. Bauman and Mata (Myer) Bauman. Following graduation from Waterloo East High School she worked at Rath Packing Co. On January 1, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harold Arthur Thompson in Waterloo, IA. She later worked at Micro Switch and then 20 years at the Mental Health Institute, both in Independence before retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jesup.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Strait of Homosassa, FL; one son, James Thompson of Harlan, IA; 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Harold who died September 15, 1992, her parents, three sisters, Ella Bauman, Evelyn Bauman, Emma Webster; and three brothers, Leroy, Kermit and Louis Bauman, proceeded her in death.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Friday, July 29, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Kristy Parker officiating. James Thompson will be the organist. Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA and for an hour before services Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
