JESUP – Gerald F. “Jerry” Bloes, 84 years old, of Jesup, Iowa, died Monday, August 10, 2026, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, Iowa, with Fr. Douglas J. Loecke as celebrant. Burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 13, 2026, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary said at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Friday, at the church. Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Church and School, Bosco School System, Jesup Fire Department and Jesup Ambulance Association.

Jerry was born January 3, 1942, in Fox Township of Black Hawk County, IA, the son of Cletus John Bloes and Genevieve Susan (Wagner) Bloes. He graduated from Don Bosco High School with the class of 1959 and began working at K & B Hatchery in Jesup. He later purchased the business, and it became known as B & B Farm Store. Jerry was a member of the St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup; Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, and former member of the Jesup Fire Department, St. Athanasius Parish Council and the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company board.

On September 16, 1967, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Weber at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville. They made their home and raised their family in Jesup.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Bloes of Jesup; one son, Donald “Donnie” (Lanette) Bloes of Jesup; two daughters, Julie (Amos) Garrett of North Liberty, IA, Cindy (Dan) Hersom of Chicago, IL; 6 grandchildren, Brett (Kelli) Bloes, Megan (John) Smith, Mallory Garrett, Oliver Garrett, Olivia Hersom and Aiden Hersom; 3 great grandchildren, Isabell, Carson and Kane Bloes and one on the way; 3 brothers, Larry (Barb) Bloes of Sac City, IA, Robert “Bob” (Rosie) Bloes of Gilbertville and William “Bill” (Rhonda) Bloes of Jesup; also, one sister, Mary Lee (Charles “Chuck”) Phillips of Waterloo.

His parents and one nephew, Thomas Bloes, preceded him in death.
