JESUP – Martin Francis “Marty” Neverman, 69 years old, of Jesup, Iowa, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 23, 2026, at his home, following a sudden illness.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Rev. Douglas J. Loecke. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2026, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, where there will be a rosary said at 3:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Tuesday, at the church.

Marty was born August 23, 1956, the son of Claire Gilbert Neverman and Lou Dene Mary (Hogan) Neverman. He attended St. Athanasius School through eighth grade and graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1974. On September 18, 1982, he was united in marriage to Susan Beth Smith at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. They made their home in rural Jesup where Marty farmed. He also worked at B&B Farm Store in Jesup for over 20 years.

Marty was a quiet, caring and generous man. His family was his pride and joy. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was part of his routine he looked forward to every day. Marty was the cook of the family and made it a point to have a big traditional Sunday breakfast every week. He was the quiet strength that many could rely on in a time of need. He liked to hunt, fish, and spend time reading. Marty was meticulous, too. Whether it was mowing the yard, planting his crop, or maintaining the cattle, he took pride in doing things the right way. He loved going on car cruises. Marty and Sue were longtime participants in the Thursday night car cruises in Independence, Iowa, and then continued the tradition in Jesup. He was a Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed playing slow pitch softball in years past. Marty was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.

Marty is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue Neverman of Jesup; his children, Sara (Kelly) Harrold of Jesup, Dr. Eric (Lexie Hach) Neverman of Grundy Center, Iowa, and Betsy (Jesse) Downing of Anamosa, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kale Harrold, Addison Harrold, Theodore Downing, and Eleanor Downing; three brothers, Steve (Donna) Neverman of Jesup, Mick (Marian) Neverman of Manchester, Iowa, and Andy (Deb) Neverman of Martelle, Iowa; seven sisters, Deb Neverman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Linda (Kris) Greenwood of Ankeny, Iowa, Pam (Gene) Schmidt of Independence, Iowa, Kathy (Art) Schlumbohm of Oelwein, Iowa, Kim (Al) Schaffer of Troy, IL, Ann (Denis) Weber of Independence, and Julie (Kevin) Hoffman of Oelwein. He is also survived by Sue’s parents, Darold and Linda Smith of Jesup, and her brothers, Gary (Rita) Smith of Jesup and Andy (Christine) Smith of Vinton, Iowa, in addition to many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Janella Neverman; brothers-in-law, Jerry Smith, in infancy, and Mitchell Smith; and a nephew, Jason Neverman.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Jesup Ambulance Service or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
