Jack was born on June 28, 1947, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Edwin Russell and Wanda Jane (Paulsen) Pullin. He grew up on a farm outside of Hudson, Iowa, and graduated from Hudson High School with the class of 1965. On March 19, 1966, Jack was united in marriage to Gloria Jean Palmer. He worked for John Deere for a short time before being drafted by the United States Army and served his country as a missile mechanic while stationed in Germany. Upon his return home, Jack continued to work for John Deere, retiring in 1996. He also farmed until 1985. Agriculture was important to Jack, which is why he got involved with 4-H. He was a 4-H leader locally and served on several committees at the county level. Jack was a member of the UAW Local 838 in Waterloo, Iowa, Bechter-Boies VFW Post 2440 in Independence, First Baptist Church in Jesup, and he was an inaugural member of the Jesup Bible Fellowship Church in Jesup.

Jack had a quick wit and dry sense of humor that made for many laughs over the years. He loved to hang out in the shop and tinker with his cars and work on his woodworking and whittling projects. He enjoyed traveling to car shows and was proud of his 1928 Ford Coupe Street Rod. In his younger years he loved to go snowmobiling and he spent a lot of time in the 1980’s working on his race car and racing at local tracks. Jack will always be remembered for his love of music from the ‘50s and ‘60s and his weakness for black licorice.

Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria Pullin of Independence; one daughter, Janice (Gary) Heth of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two sons, James (Karen) Pullin of Jesup, and Jerry (Brenda) Pullin of Shullsburg, Wisconsin; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren, and 9 step great grandchildren; three sisters, Judy Smelser of Shepherd, Montana, Nancy (Steve) Risse of Dysart, Iowa, JoAnne (Dale) Wooden of Hudson; and many nieces and nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, John (Elniece) Pullin.
