Independence – Patricia Louise Vargason, 81 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at her home following a long illness.  She was born on July 18, 1929, in Lamont, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse David and Nona Ann (Lewis) Holroyd.  She graduated from high school in Lamont in 1946.  On June 25, 1947, she and Herschel Ward Vargason were married in Aurora, Iowa.  He preceded her in death in 1991.  Mrs. Vargason was a care giver for her family.  She was also an active member of the First Baptist Church in Independence for 68 years.  She was a former Sunday School teacher and held many offices with the women’s circle group.

Mrs. Vargason is survived by 6 daughters, Sharon (Wilbert “Buster”) Tynes of Copperas Cove, Texas, Diana (Edward) Murray of Aurora, Iowa, Barbara Haas and Carol (Glen) Mills, both of Waterloo, Iowa, Becky (Billy) Staton of Tama, Iowa, and Nona (Steven Tory) Cook of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and 4 sons, Alan (Danielle) Vargason of Menifee, California, Roger (Bernice) Vargason of Independence, Iowa, Rick (Cheryl Refshauge) Vargason of Waterloo, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Vargason of Bondurant, Iowa, 28 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by 1 brother, Thomas (Jackie) Holroyd of Long Beach, California, 2 sisters, Anabel (Donald) Pogue of Iowa City, Iowa, and Viola Meader of Marion, Iowa, 2 brothers-in-law, S.R. “Bob” Gallup of Waterford, Connecticut, and Marvin (Edna) Mosher of Shellsburg, Iowa, and 1 sister-in-law, Billie Vargason of Owatona, Minnesota.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 grandsons, 1 brother, and 3 sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Independence with Dr. David A. Larson officiating.  Burial will be in Campton Cemetery in Lamont.  Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
