INDEPENDENCE – Cheryl Ann Smith, 69 years old of Marion, IA, died Thursday, May 19, 2026, at Silver Oak Nursing and Rehab Center in Marion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Cheryl was born April 21, 1957, in Independence, IA, the daughter of Richard Clinton King and Nettie Marie (Smith) King.  She graduated from Waterloo West High School.  She worked for a time as a call center operator and later as a CNA at nursing homes in the Cedar Rapids area including Manor Care.  In 1995 she married Leonard Smith in a civil service at Manor Care.  They later divorced.

Cheryl is survived by one son, Matthew (Brandi) Washburn of Marion; one daughter, Sabrina “Bree” King of Marion; one grandson, Melvin Noll; two sisters, Karen (Ronald) Carrington of Pleasant Hill, IA, Diana Moses of Waterloo.  Her parents, one brother, Craig King and three sisters, Marlys King, Carla King and Vickie Graham, preceded her in death.
