JESUP – Eugene Harold Waring, 91 yeas old of Jesup, IA, died Friday April 10, 2026, at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at the American Lutheran Church, Jesup, IA, with burial at Strawberry Point Cemetery (Cass Township Cemetery), Strawberry Point, IA. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 13, 2026, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials will be directed to the American Lutheran Church and to St. Croix Hospice.

Eugene was born July 14, 1934, in Clayton County, Iowa, the son of Mervin Waring and Ruby B. (Gentz) Waring. He attended country school and then graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, IA. He played baseball, football and was a basketball manager. On October 9, 1955, he was united in marriage to Gloria Elizabeth Humphrey in Arlington, IA. Two sons were born to this union, Michael in 1957 and Mark in 1960. Eugene and Gloria divorced in 1966. On April 20, 1968, he married Sherilyn Rae Van Mill in Cedar Falls, IA. They made their home on an acreage south of Jesup. One daughter was born to this union, Susan in 1969. Eugene worked for Rath Packing in Waterloo from 1952 – 1984. He later worked at Paulsen Electric, Meninga Electric, drove semi for Crouse Cartage and Elsworth, traveling in 48 states. He later worked at I.B.P. in Waterloo and retired in 1996. He loved Bluegrass music and played banjo and fiddle for several bands and later started his own family band with Mike, Susan and Susan’s husband Jesse Durham. He loved John Deere tractors and owned a 1938 John Deere B and a 1947 John Deere A. He loved gardening and lawn work. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Jesup.

Eugene is survived by two sons, Michael (Chris) Waring of Jesup, Mark (Sandra) Waring of Walker, IA; one daughter, Susan Durham of Jesup; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Darlene Duhrkopf.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sherilyn; one son-in-law, Jesse Durham; and his brother-in-law, Howard Duhrkopf.
