Family services for Larry will be held at a later date. His cremated remains will be interred at Old Barclay Cemetery, rural Jesup, IA. Military rites will be conducted by Peter Kress American Legion Post #636 of Dunkerton, IA. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Waterloo. Online condolence may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com. Larry was born August 13, 1948, in Charles City, IA, the son of Robert E. Lightbody and Glendora Gae (Cagley) Lightbody. He graduated from Westwood Community Schools at Sloan, IA, with the class of 1967. He entered the U.S. Navy in February 1968 and served until December 1971, during Vietnam, serving on the USS Hancock aircraft carrier. Larry then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education and Sculpture in 1975. He continued his education and in 1982 earned his Master of Arts Degree in Studio Arts and Sculpture from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. He supplemented his education over the years’ taking various drafting and welding classes from Western Iowa Tech. Community College in Sioux City, IA and Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, IA, also Twin City Testing in Waterloo. He was an Independent Businessman working as a fabricator and sculptor. Several of his public art works may be seen in Waterloo and Sioux City, Iowa. On June 16, 1973, he was united in marriage to Jennifer Lee Graham at Barclay Presbyterian Church, rural Waterloo. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. Larry is survived by his wife, Jennifer Lightbody of rural Waterloo; one son, Michael (Emily) Lightbody of Columbus, OH; one daughter, Elizabeth (Seth) Harms of Manchester, IA; two grandsons, Cooper and Parker Harms; two brothers, Richard (Katie) Lightbody of Clear Lake, IA, Jim (Jo) Lightbody of Oologah, OK; and several nieces and nephews. His parents and one brother, John Lightbody preceded him in death. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is assisting the family with the arrangements. |
