Independence – Randall Glenn Sorg, 55 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, July 11, 2011, at his home.  He was born on March 10, 1956, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Elva Frances (Maynard) and Murray Matthews Sorg.  He graduated from high school in Independence in 1974 and then, he graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, in 1978.  On March 8, 2000, he and the former Marty Lou Bergeson were married in Independence, Iowa.  For 29 years, Mr. Sorg was an independent insurance agent in Independence.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, the Delta Chi Fraternity, the Independence Rotary Club, the North South Football Association, Pheasants Forever, and the Independence Association of Independent Insurance Agents.  He was also a Team National Independent Sales Representative.  He enjoyed playing golf and was also a league bowler in Independence.

Mr. Sorg is survived by his wife, Marty, 1 son, Austin Sorg of Cedar Falls, Iowa, 1 daughter, Allie Sorg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 1 step daughter, Jenna Woods of Waterloo, Iowa, and 1 step son, Patrick O’Donnell of Independence, Iowa.  He is also survived by 1 granddaughter, Emma Barton-O’Donnell, 1 brother, Rick (Connie) Sorg of Independence, Iowa, 1 sister, Susie (Shane) Bevans of Winthrop, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence with Rev. John Hougen officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.

Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 14th, at White Funeral Home in Independence.
