White Funeral Home GILBERTVILLE - Michael L. Welch, 83 years old of Gilbertville, IA, died Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at his home following a heart attack. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville with inurnment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714 and the Iowa National Guard. Visitation will be at the church in Gilbertville on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. There will be a vigil service at 3:30 p.m., Friday at the church. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Saturday. Memorials will be directed to Immaculate Conception Church, the Bosco System and Nugent- Demuth American Legion Post 714 all in Gilbertville. Online condolences may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com. Mike was born in Waterloo, on August 22, 1941, the son of Richard William Welch and Clara Isa (Reece) Welch. He attended school in Churdan, IA, and graduated from Paton-Churdan High School in 1960. He then attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, IA, for two years. Mike served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. On February 17, 1968, he was united in marriage to Bonita Jean Mangrich at Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville. He worked as a security guard at John Deere in Waterloo until retirement in 1999. Mike was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714, and a 50 plus year member of the Raymond Bow Hunters Club. Mike is survived by his wife, Bonnie Welch of Gilbertville; two sons, Brian (Amy) Welch of Rochester, MN, Anthony (Nikki) Welch of Waverly, IA; three daughters, Diane Welch and Julie (Steve) McIntire of St. Louis, MO, Angela (Anthony) Westlund of Delano, MN; 8 grandchildren; one great grandson, a sister-in-law, Debra Welch and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ted Welch. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
