White Funeral Home JESUP - Phyllis JEAN Cook, 92 years old of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Northcrest Specialty Care in Waterloo, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday March 24th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup where there will be a parish rosary at 3:30 p.m. and vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church, and Unity Point Hospice. Online condolences may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com. Jean was born June 20, 1932, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of John Adams Dickey and Helen (Johnson) Dickey. The family soon moved to Morrison, IL, where Jean graduated from High School. On May 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to Richard Earl Cook in Morrison. The couple ended up moving to Olathe, KS, where Richard worked as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War. Richard and Jean then moved to rural Jesup and purchased a farm with the help of their family. Jean worked 30 years at Hawkeye Steel in Waterloo, first as a secretary and then as a technician, working on “Pride of Farm” heated watering systems for cattle. Jean loved raising flowers and gardening. She was also a talented seamstress and shared her abilities with her family and friends as she made quilts, baby blankets and crocheted hats. Jean put much love into these endeavors. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. All of this while helping Richard on the farm. She was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. Jean is survived by her son, Michael (Cinthia) Cook, of Jesup; three grandchildren, Nicole (Chad) Foelske, Jeffrey (Jill) Cook, Whitney (Steve) Benter, all of Jesup; five great grandchildren, Landen, Brantley, Hadley & Kenzingten Foelske, Gracelynn Cook; one brother, John and a sister, Nancy; also nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, just nine days ago on March 10, 2025, also her parents and one sister Paddy. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
