Sylvia was born November 16, 1945, in Tucson, AZ, the daughter of Delbert Leonard King and Mary Erma (Miller) King. She grew up in Independence and graduated from Jefferson High School with the class of 1963. On June 20, 1964, she was united in marriage to Roger Orville Brimmer at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Roger preceded her in death in 2022 after 58 years of marriage. Sylvia worked as a switchboard operator for Montgomery Ward in Cedar Rapids, IA, and continued her education at Kirkwood Community College, where she would earn an associate degree in electronics. Sylvia worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids as a procedure writer and supervisor. She retired after 35 years with the company.

Sylvia and Roger loved to do everything together. They both had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed many trips to Canada to camp and fish. Whether it was in the car or on the boat, Sylvia liked to be in the driver’s seat. She loved to go to estate sales and collect antiques. Sylvia also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, and going to the casino – where she found herself the winner, on multiple occasions. Above all, Sylvia loved to be with her family. She always looked forward to time spent together.

Sylvia is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie (Scot) Marling of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Angela (Michael) Benson of Wausau, WI; five grandchildren, Weston (Amy) Marling, Ryan Marling, Nathan (Chelsie) Marling, Abagail Benson, Alexzander Benson; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Delbert (Joyce) King, Morris (Diane) King, Leslie (Evelyn) King; three sisters Mary (Richard) Knudson, Crystal Gross, Valerie (James) Teisinger; a sister-in-law Genene Gordish; and many nieces and nephews.
