Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2025, at White Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be at a later date in the Littleton Cemetery, Littleton, IA. David was born November 5, 1943, in Oelwein, IA, the son of Lester Manley and Hattie Frances (Kraft) Manley. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Waterloo, IA. On January 26, 1963, he was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Appel in Hudson, IA. David began farming at a young age and also learned to weld metal. He worked as a welder in Waterloo, before taking a position with WWW Corporation as a farm manager, where he was in charge of raising cattle in Winterset, IA. David returned to Waterloo, and worked as a welder for Construction Machinery, IBP, and eventually Tyson Foods. In 1969, he and Gloria made their home in rural Independence at Otterville, before moving into town. He was a member of UAW Local #838 David was a jack of all trades. He liked to work on cars, trucks, and motorcycles. He was also a talented woodworker. David liked to hunt, fish, and go camping. He and Gloria raised Appaloosa horses and loved to take them trail riding whenever they had a chance. He took pride in a job well done, especially when it came to his yard, keeping it meticulously maintained. While David was stern and to the point, he also had a fun and lighthearted side, as he loved the comic strip character, Garfield. David is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria Manley of Independence, IA; two daughters, Tina Latham of Bear Valley, WI, and Monica Hill of Evansdale, IA; four grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Janice) Manley of Waterloo, IA; one sister, Julia Fuller of Otterville, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Dean Manley; and two brothers, Francis Manley and Paul Manley. Memorials may be directed to the family.
