Malcolm was born November 6, 1937, in Independence, IA, the son of Donald Alexander Risk and Lydia (Biedermann) Risk. He grew up in Independence and graduated from Independence High School with the class of 1956. He went on to study electrical engineering at the University of Iowa. On December 31, 1965, he was united in marriage to Ella May Ball at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence. They shared many adventures and lived in several places (Texas, Florida, Washington) before settling in Iowa, then retiring to Arizona. Malcolm enjoyed the outdoors - golfing, fishing, hunting, and skiing. He loved going to football games and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was active in the community and was involved with many organizations such as Buchanan County Historical Society, Cedar Valley Hospice, Lions Club and the Wapsipinicon Country Club. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence and served as an elder and deacon. Malcolm is survived by two daughters, Shannon Risk of Niagara Falls, NY, Suzi (Brian) Risk of Blairstown, IA; two sons, Scott (Julie) Risk of Grapevine, TX, and Steve Risk of Independence, IA; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ella; one son in infancy, Sean Risk and his brother Donald Louis Risk. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
