GILBERTVILLE - John F. Fettkether, 89 years old of Friendship Village, Waterloo, IA, and formerly of Gilbertville and Dunkerton, IA, died Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Friendship Village.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, December 28, 2024, at St. Francis Catholic Church-Barclay, rural Dunkerton with burial in the church cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714 of Gilbertville.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, December 27, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Memorials will be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice and Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post 714.

John was born September 3, 1935, on the family farm in Black Hawk County, IA, near Dunkerton, to Hugh Bernard Fettkether and Dorothy Josephine (Meier) Fettkether. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Gilbertville, IA. On September 9, 1957, he and the former Mary Jean Thoma were united in marriage at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, IA. John worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo for 25 years as a production worker. He then spent 3 years at John Deere in Waterloo before driving a semi for Jensen Transport in Independence, IA, for 20 years. John also farmed his whole working life. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Gilbertville and former member of St. Francis – Barclay Church. He was also a member of Nugent Demuth American Legion in Gilbertville.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Jean Fettkether of Waterloo; two sons, Larry (Barb) Fettkether of Dunkerton, Steve (Carleen) Fettkether of Mason City, IA; three daughters, Kathy (Jerry) Gallmeyer of Waterloo, Diane (Tim) Foss of North Liberty, IA, Julie (Brad) Seyffer of Monument, CO; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two brothers, James (Karen) Fettkether of Raymond, IA, Louis “Lou” Fettkether of Denver, CO; three sisters, Clarice Weber of Manchester, Karen (Ron) Hall of Waterloo, Dorothy (Jim) Sadler of Cedar Falls, IA.

His parents; two brothers, Donald Fettkether (stillborn) and Gerald Fettkether (Vietnam 1967); and one sister Audrey Babinat (2024), preceded him in death.
