INDEPENDENCE – Ruth Ann Holden, 76 years old of Independence, IA, died Monday, December 23, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, December 27, 2024, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, IA. Burial will be at Eastside Cemetery, Elkader, IA. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., before services Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com.

Ruth was born September 11, 1948, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Donald Portwein and Helen Lorene Holden She worked at various businesses in the community and enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales and the stock car races. She could often be seen riding with her son Luke around town.

Ruth is survived by her son Virgil “Luke” Holden of Independence; and one brother, John “Jack” Holden of Independence.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Shelby Slaughter, Shirley Thurn, Eileen Meier, Eleanor Bowers, Marilyn Mehlerx; and brothers, Abbie Holden, Melvin Holden and Alvin Holden.
