White Funeral Home Jesup – Clara Evans Lewin, 100 years old of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, IA. She was born October 13, 1910, at Savanna, IL, the daughter of Joseph Edwin Garrow and Alice Carolyn (Ellinor) Garrow. On August 17, 1928, she was united in marriage to Willis Julius “Bill” Evans in Lena, IL. Bill preceded her in death on December 20, 1979. She was later married to James Lewin in Elizabeth, IL for a short time before his death. Clara moved to Jesup, IA in 1992 to be near her family. She was a homemaker, but in earlier years worked at the Savanna Ordinance Depot from 1941 – 1954, she had also worked for a time at a woolen mill as a weaver. She maintained her membership at the First United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, IL, but in Iowa she enjoyed attending the Cornerstone Foursquare Church in Independence, IA. Clara is survived by one son and daughter in law, Jerry and Ida Evans of Jesup, IA; one grandson, William (Pamela) Evans of Kalona, IA; one granddaughter, Candy (Steven) Frahm of Conrad, IA; also 8 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. In addition to her two husbands, her parents, two infant daughters; one brother, Joseph Garrow; and three sisters, Virginia Crummer, Viola Miller and Helen Siegenthaler preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Cornerstone Foursquare Church, Independence, IA, with Rev. Bill Black officiating. Mrs. Nancy Black will be the organist. Casket Bearers will be William Evans, Michael Evans, Steven Frahm, Matthew Riemenschneider and Syrus Miller. Visitation will be for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at Chapel Hill Memory Gardens Cemetery, Freeport, IL, with Michael Evans officiating. |
