White Funeral Home JESUP- Elston G. Goodenbour, 85 years old of Readlyn, IA, and formerly of Jesup, IA, died Thursday, November 7, 2024, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. - Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Elston was born December 9, 1938, in Waterloo, the son of LaVern Goodenbour and Alma (Redies) Goodenbour. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1957. On August 14, 1960, He was united in marriage to Barbara Joyce Enlow at the American Lutheran Church in Jesup. They raised their family and made their home in Jesup. Elston owned and operated Goody’s Lounge and later El’s Café in Jesup. He also worked for several other businesses over the years, including Fahr Beverage, Continental Bakery, Corkery Enterprises and the Isle Casino. Barbara preceded him in death on June 26, 2000. Elston loved to take Barb fishing as often as they could. They enjoyed teaching the kids as well. He loved to spend time with family and he also loved to spend time at casinos where he tried to take them for all he could. Elston is survived by three sons, Randall (Beth) Goodenbour of Grimes, IA, Gregory (Kimberly) Goodenbour of Waterloo, Eric (Melissa) Goodenbour of Bettendorf, IA; one daughter, Melissa (Ray) Knight of Readlyn; 12 grandchildren, Michael Goodenbour, Kayla Versluis, Emily Goodenbour, Braden Knight, Hannah Knight, Cullun Knight, Blake Goodenbour, Ashley McGraw, Willow Wilson, Isabella Wilson, Tyler Wilson, Keifer Wilson; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Eldon (Mary) Goodenbour of Rio Linda, CA. In addition to his wife Barbara, he was preceded in death by his parents. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
