White Funeral Home INDEPENDENCE – Eleanor L. “Ellie” Miner, 89 years old, of Rice Lake, WI, and formerly of Independence, IA, died Sunday, October 20, 2024, at her home in Wisconsin. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, October 25, 2024, at St. John Catholic Church, Independence, IA, where there will be public visitation from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Independence. Eleanor Louise Morris was born November 13, 1934, in rural Buchanan County, near Walker, IA, the daughter of Charles Oliver Morris and Myrtle Ruth (Scott) Morris. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids, IA, with the class of 1953. On August 29, 1953, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Fred “Larry” Miner at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple managed the Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Winthrop, IA, for several years, before moving to Rice Lake, WI, to be closer to family. Larry preceded Eleanor in death in 2007. Ellie enjoyed golfing, cake decorating, crocheting, sewing, and doll making. She liked visiting, and always looked forward to visits from her friends and family. She was a former member of St. John Catholic Church in Independence, IA, and was currently a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rice Lake, WI. Eleanor is survived by two sons, Lawrence P. (Marybeth) Miner of Mankato, MN, Michael H. Miner of Conway, MO; two daughters, JoAnn M. (Glenn) Hile and Patricia E. Miner all of Shell Lake, WI; nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren. She’s also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry; one son, John Miner; one daughter Mary Margaret Miner; two brothers, Harley Morris and Charles “LeRoy” Morris; five sisters, Lola Hoffman, Vesta Doty, Elsie Briggman, Mary Cook, and Dorothy Morris. Memorials may be directed to the family. |
