INDEPENDENCE – Dale Eldon White, 90 years old of Spring Hill, Florida and formerly of Independence, Iowa, died Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Sturgill Hospice House in Spring Hill, following a short illness.

Iowa Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. John A. Gossman as Celebrant. Graveside committal and burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Greenfield Cemetery, in his hometown of Greenfield, IA.

Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Spring Hill, Fl, and the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. – Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, IA. Visitation will also be for an hour before services Friday, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup.

Dale was born March 28, 1934, in Greenfield, IA, the son of Alfred Ray White and Opal Margaretta (Adamson) White. He graduated from Greenfield High School with the class of 1952. Dale continued his education at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, IA, (now the University of Northern Iowa) for 2 years before attending the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, Dallas, Texas, where he graduated as class Valedictorian.

On February 14, 1954, he was united in marriage to Arlene Mae Johnston “Susie” in Winterset, IA. They divorced in 1987. On December 1, 1991, he married Camille Barbara (Mazurski) Husak in New Port Richey, FL. They made their home in Holiday, Fl, before moving to Spring Hill in 2002.

Dale served his apprenticeship in funeral service with the Dahl Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, IA, before moving to Hampton, IA, where he worked at Greenfield Funeral Home. In December of 1958, he purchased the former Swanson Funeral Home in Independence. Dale owned and operated White Funeral Home in Independence until moving to Florida in 1987, where he continued working in funeral service until retirement. While in Independence he was an active promoter of civic, church and community projects. He had a strong faith and was an active member of his parish, St. Frances Cabrini in Florida, where he served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed cribbage, Tampa Bay Rays baseball, reading, his family, building birdhouses, talking about business and politics.

Dale is survived by his wife, Camille; two sons, Mark White of Independence; John (Cindy) White of Jesup, IA; one daughter, Mary (Dewey) Eyerly of Winterset, IA, 4 grandchildren, Joanne (Nate) McKone of Cedar Falls, Brian (Jackie) White of Independence, Haley (Travis) Powell of Norwalk, IA, Danielle (Josh) McKinney of Winterset; 6 great grandchildren, Natalie, Kayla, & Brielle White, Knox & Tylee Powell, Michael McKone; two step great grandchildren, Wesley & Chloe McKinney, and one sister, Donna Bochart of Rockville, NE.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Carmen & Bill Wahe, and a brother-in- law, Robert Bochart.
