Jeffrey L. Meyers |
White Funeral Home WAVERLY - Jeff Meyers, age 67, of Waverly, died Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Aspirus-St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, MN, as a result of injuries sustained in a bicycling accident. Jeff was born March 2, 1957, in Belmond, IA, the son of William and Audrey (Leerar) Meyers. He graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School with the class of 1975, then attended Luther College in Decorah, IA, where he graduated in 1979 with degrees in Management and Economics and forged friendships that would last the rest of his life. He later also graduated from the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, WI. On June 20, 1981, Jeff was united in marriage to Julie Ann Masmar, his partner for the next 43 years, in Charles City, IA. Jeff and Julie made their home in several small communities throughout northern Iowa and southeastern Minnesota over the next 16 years as Jeff built his career in banking, until settling in Waverly in 1997. Jeff worked for 44 years as an agricultural and commercial lender, the past 22 years of which were spent with Fidelity Bank & Trust in Waverly. He was known for his laugh, quickly making his presence known in any room. After a hearty chuckle, folks quickly got to know how kind-hearted and welcoming he was. He dearly loved the relationships that he built with his farm clients, and he was always eager to get out on the farm with them. He welcomed any opportunity to discuss the weather, crop conditions, commodity markets or Twins baseball with whomever was willing to engage with him. Jeff cared deeply for the Waverly and Cedar Valley communities. He was a long-time active member of Waverly Exchange Club, and he currently served on the Board of Trustees for Waverly Health Center. Jeff enthusiastically embraced retirement in December 2023, renewing his passions for reading, cycling, landscaping, walking, golf, and just relaxing. At the time of his accident, he was joyfully immersed in a boys’ trip to the North Shore of Minnesota with dear, long-time college friends. While we will forever mourn his passing, we are deeply comforted by the clear fact that his last memory was of doing something he loved, with people he loved, and in a place that he loved. Jeff is survived by his wife, Julie, of Waverly; daughters Laura (Josh) Deeds of Waterloo, Kelly (Andrew) Johnson of Waverly, Beth Ann (Kyle) Kappmeyer of Waverly; and son Daniel (Connor Callahan) Meyers of Chicago, IL. He leaves behind eight grandchildren to whom he was and will always be a gregarious and silly “Papa”: Drew, Jackson & Addison Deeds; Annabelle & Graham Johnson; Hayden, Jace & Owen Kappmeyer. Additionally, his compassion and pragmatism will be deeply missed by his sisters Kim (Peter) Eggimann of Hastings, MN and Lisa (Reggie) Kelch of Lee’s Summit, MO; sister-in-law Roberta Meyers of Algona, IA; stepmother Pat Patterson-Meyers of Algona, IA; mother-in-law Donna Masmar of Charles City, IA; brother- and sister-in-law Craig and Cindy Masmar of Minneapolis, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his loving parents, Bill and Audrey Meyers, who taught him to cherish life outdoors on the farm, brother Craig Meyers, and father-in-law Jan Masmar. We know his life, love, and memory will carry on in all those whose lives he’s touched, just as with the beloved family members who left before him. Celebration of Life services are planned for 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Waverly Area Veterans Post, to be followed by a time of fellowship and remembrances from 3:00-6:00 in the same location. The family invites all who have known and loved Jeff to attend either or both of those events and share their stories of him. Memorials may be directed to the family, for distribution to charities that were meaningful to Jeff. Alternatively, we welcome you to make a donation in Jeff’s memory to a charity of your choice; if you choose to do so, we would love a note to let us know where you’ve chosen to share his impact on the world. |
