Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. – Thursday, February 22, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with inurnment at Cedar Crest Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be for an hour before services Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be posted at www.White-MtHope.com Leonard was born August 7, 1930, in Waverly, IA, the son of Leonard Lynn Kaster and Emma Carrie (Johnson) Kaster. Because of the untimely death of his biological father, and the eventual remarriage of his mother, Leonard was raised in the Ratchford family with numerous brothers and sisters including step-brothers and step-sisters, Bernard, Willard, Frank, Betty and Bernice, also, half-brothers and half-sisters, Norman, Loyd, John, Rita, Gloria, and Betsy. Leonard graduated from Rowley High School, Rowley, IA, with the class of 1948. On January 30, 1949, he was united in marriage to Vivian Leone Wenger in Independence. They eventually settled in Jesup and raised their family. Leonard worked 36 years for Deere and Company in Waterloo, IA, almost entirely as a supervisor. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. After retirement, he and Vivian were able to enjoy wintering in Arizona for 26 years. Leonard is survived by his wife, Vivian of Independence, two sons, David A. (Shellie) Kaster of Reedsburg, WI, and Leonard L. (Janie) Kaster, Jr., of Hazleton, IA; one daughter, Kathy French of Cedar Falls, IA, 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 5 great great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; several brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, Paul French. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
