White Funeral Home
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Friday, January 26, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, and for an hour before services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup or to Cedar Valley Hospice. Marlys was born June 23, 1936, in Preston, MN, the daughter of Edward Mensink and Marian (Broadwater) Mensink and after her mother’s death in 1939, she was accepted into the home of Howard and Celia Wesselink and became a part of their family. After graduation from high school in Wykoff, MN, Marlys was united in marriage to Paul Arthur Nagel in Cherry Grove, MN, on July 10, 1954. They moved to Waterloo, IA, in 1955, and on to Jesup in 1959. Marlys worked at Farmers Mutual Telephone Company in Jesup for 39 years and retired in 2007. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup and a former member of Eastern Star. Marlys is survived by two daughters, Cindy Schmit of Jesup and Ann (Greg) Becker of Jesup; two sons, Terry (Colleen) Nagel of Jesup, and Chris (Barbara) Nagel of Grinnell, IA; 6 grandchildren, Wes Becker, Justin Becker, Danielle Schmit, Adam Schmit, Shawna Cameron and Jessica Nagel; three step-grandchildren, Tami Hurd, Tim Kane, Kimberly Lewis; 4 great grandchildren, Josie King, Peyton Cameron, Lila Cameron, Ellie Cameron; 4 step-great grandchildren, Bryan Hurd, Brandon Kane, Trevor Kane and Ellie Lewis; also one brother, Floyd (Carol) Wesselink of Marion, IA. She is preceded in death by her biological parents, her adoptive parents; husband, Paul in 2015; one son, Danny in 2019; two step-great grandchildren, Tyler Hurd and Joe Lewis, one sister, Coleen Schmidt in 2015; and one son-in-law, Earl Schmit in 2017. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
