INDEPENDENCE – Richard E. Deardoff, Sr., 98 years old, of Independence, IA, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.

Dick was one of the original founders of Pries Enterprises in Independence, IA.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Deardoff of Independence and one son, Rick (Teresa) Deardoff of Florida. He is also survived by Pat’s children, Judy (Mark) Norton of Strawberry Point, IA, Allen (Kim) Pont of Oelwein, IA, and Teresa Damon of Oelwein, IA; also, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orla and Ruth Deardoff; his brother, Robert Deardoff; and Pat’s son, Calvin Pont.
