White Funeral Home Jesup – James R. Patten, 72 years old, of rural Jesup, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, in Black Hawk County from injuries sustained in a traffic accident. He was born August 26, 1938, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Carl Patten and Louise (Donath) Patten. Following graduation from West High School in Waterloo with the class of 1956, Jim served four years in the US Marines until 1959. On September 12, 1959, He and Cheryl A. Hummell were married at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waterloo. Jim worked at John Deere in Waterloo, retiring after 36 years. He also had farmed since 1976. Mr. Patten is survived by his wife, Cheryl Patten of Jesup, IA, two sons, Mark Patten of Waterloo, IA and Jim Patten (and friend Ranae Mann) of Waterloo, IA, two grandchildren, Daniel and Amanda Patten, and his step mother, Bernice Patten of Waterloo, IA. He is preceded in death by his mother and father. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Zion Lutheran Church - Jubilee, rural LaPorte City, Iowa, with Pastor Ernest Elzey officiating. Music will be by Renee Jesse, organist and Bonnie Meighan, soloist. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Kenneth E. Weber and Robert Fratzke. Casket Bearers will be Harold Allen, Craig Allen, Dennis Palmer, Dale Zuck, Norm Poppy and Clark Masteller. Military Rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, IA. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, IA. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, May 20th, at White Funeral Home in Jesup, Iowa, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established. |
